What do you want?
It is better to know some of the questions than all of the answers.
If you already know what you want, you might like to skip this section and move to Getting there (but feel free to check this section out first, to make absolutely sure!). If, on the other hand, you are in need of some guidance in determining what you want to do, then do the exercise.
Take time to answer the questions as fully as you can and then consider the answers in as much depth as possible. The answers will help you to identify the factors that would make you start seeking changes to what you currently do, or that would make you take some action.
The aim of the exercise as a whole is to help you to start to formulate and identify career goals, and as human beings we are all naturally geared to work towards goals: successful people know what they want and go for it. The last two questions are important because if you can see yourself in the future as, say, head of your department, or running your own independent business, or in a totally different job, then you will know what you are aiming for.
It is always easier to move from one job to another than to move from being unemployed to being employed.
Think ahead – plan – make the move only when necessary.

Don’t get stuck just because you have the skills: ‘I finally decided that just because I spent $100,000 on a hammer, I don’t have to spend the rest of my life driving nails’.
