Managing Your Career

Why waste time?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover.

Mark Twain

Are you someone who wants or needs to take charge of their own career? You might be happy in your job, but want to go further up the proverbial career ladder; alternatively, you might be dissatisfied and want to make some changes. You might not even know what changes to make. Any guidance at all would be useful.

Or are you a manager who, for whatever reason, wants to support a direct report in their career development? Maybe they’ve asked for advice or maybe it’s part of your role to give advice. You’d welcome some help here.

This topic is primarily aimed at the individual person wanting to be proactive about their future direction, but it also has plenty of hints and tips for line managers involved in talent management and motivation of staff and colleagues.
