Do you carry out appraisal reviews with your staff because ‘HR told you to’?
If that’s the reason, then the chances are you find it an uncomfortable, pointless paper exercise, a ritual that you have to go through once or twice a year. You’re not alone. Large numbers of managers report that performance appraisal is the management job they dislike the most.
If such the case, it’s extremely likely that your appraisees aren’t getting anything out of it either and everybody is just wasting their time.
It doesn’t have to be like that. Properly done, performance appraisals can be extremely valuable. This topic gives some hints and tips to help you get the best from your performance appraisals.
